Every one of us has had those restless nights of tossing and turning, staring at the ceiling, being unable to get more than just a couple of hours of shuteye.

The more you are worried about not sleeping, the more your mind races, and the next thing you notice is the sun peeking through your window.

We have all spent one too many nights this way and needed to put an end to our poor sleeping patterns. We came across one delicious recipe, and it improved my cycle completely.

Irregular sleeping patterns or even insomnia can stem from several different things such as depression, stress, and anxiety.

Almost every night, we would get into bed, and our mind would be racing. Whether we were thinking about work, family or simply the things which we needed to get done the next day, we just could not permit ourselves to relax.

There are several medications which can cause insomnia.

Among the many which contribute to sleep loss are pain medications, as well as antihistamines, and heart and blood pressure medicines. Yes, there are some medicines which may make you drowsy at first, but they can also trigger frequent bathroom trips or anxiety which can further on disturb your rest.

No matter if it is one of these problems or maybe it is that you are addicted to your phone when you are supposed to sleep, something has to change.

Banana tea

Using just a couple of items which are likely already in your kitchen, you can whip together a banana tea in just short time.

This organic, as well as banana-infused sleep remedy, works wonders and it also tastes so good. How does it work?

Bananas, especially their peels, are loaded with potassium and magnesium, while magnesium helps in preventing sleep disorders, both magnesium and potassium work mutually to help in relaxing muscles.

In fact it, magnesium is also one of the best minerals for relaxation.

You should remember that this recipe calls for 100% organic bananas. Those that are not organic are loaded with harmful pesticides. And since we encourage you to eat the boiled peel, it has to be chemical-free.

You will need about 10 minutes for preparing this tea, and it can also be enjoyed every night before bed.

Needed ingredients:

–    One organic banana;

–    One small pot of water;

–    A dash of cinnamon (this one is optional).

First of all, you will have to cut off both of the ends of the banana and peel it and place all into boiling water.

Boil for about 10 minutes.

Using a colander, you should pour the water into a mug. If you feel adventurous, sprinkle the cinnamon into the tea. Drink the tea just one hour before you go to sleep.

After that banana has boiled, you should sprinkle some cinnamon over it.

Eating the warm, as well as gooey fruit and its peel along with the tea will increase its soothing effects. And not to mention – it makes a yummy dessert too.

Why are sleeping pills bad?

Out of despair, a lot of people have resorted to sleeping pills, and with almost half of the American population suffering from insomnia or poor sleep, it is no wonder. But, here is the thing: sleeping pills are not helpful for long-term. They provide a short-term fix only.

The majority of sleeping pills are a specific type of drug which induces and maintains sleep. They are classified as something which is called sedative-hypnotics. Some other types of sedative-hypnotic drugs are benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Benzodiazepine, which is like Xanax and Valium, can also be addictive and they are used for treating anxiety disorders with the increasing of drowsiness. Barbiturates which depress the central nervous system, are used as anesthetics and sedatives.

As with all types of drugs, there is also a list of side-effects which follow sleeping pills. Besides the likeliness of them being habit-forming, they can also cause the following:

–    Constipation;

–    Dizziness;

–    Difficulty focusing and remembering;

–    Stomach pain;

–    Weakness;

–    Uncontrollable shaking;

–    Parasomnias (Doing things without realizing it…it is scary!)

Sleeping pills can also cause your breathing rhythm to slow down and significantly lighten. This also means that if you are suffering from lung disease like COPD or asthma, such medicines can be serious and even fatal for you.

How can sleep deprivation affect our body?

Sleeping less than eight hours is not good for our body.

When your body does not get enough rest, generally less than eight hours, it suffers. Cognitive function, which is your long and short-term memory, is seriously affected too.

Have you ever tried to focus on some task while you were running on zero fuel? You should try, and you will see that it is near impossible.

Processing even the simplest things seems challenging, and your emotional responses to things become skewed. One of the most frightening parts is that sleep deprivation has also been linked to serious health problems, which include obesity, as well as diabetes and cancer.

It is of great importance to find out why you are not sleeping the way you used to before and work on fixing that problem. You should look forward to this tea every night, as it is 100% natural, it smells and tastes great and it has also worked tremendously with a lot of people.

Dr. Oz had an episode of natural remedies for insomnia, in which banana tea was also mentioned, and a lot of people tried it to see if they will love it, or leave it.
