In a particular part of the life circle, each person reaches a point in which feels a little lost. Successful results in school; A brilliant career ahead of you. You provided for your beautiful family a big house with a backyard and swimming pool. Quite a quality life. Still, sometimes, you get into a tornado of all the things you HAVE to do and a little TIME for it, and then, you lose the compass. You become more anxious, with no verve in you, and the old enthusiasm for work is slowly disappearing. These moments lead to conflict with colleagues, dissatisfaction with the effect and frequent absence from work.

However, as a social community, an employer, a colleague or a friend, we have an obligation not to remain blind when a person with this problem is in front of us. Behind the frequent absence, using free days or sickness, there is often a much bigger problem that can escalate and affect not only that person but also the environment.

Why do people often leave the workplace?

There are several reasons for a lot of different kinds of absences. Some are justified, some less. There’s a thin line between the right ideas and delusions, sometimes. These are the most common factors for such human behavior:

Bullying and harassment – many people experience this type of trauma more often than we can imagine. Behind the closed doors of the office, a boss and even a colleague can make substantial verbal pressure on one person. This way of mistreatment, degradation and depreciation often lead to the desire to stay home and sleep over the whole day.

Overwork and a lot of pressure can lead to the absence – sometimes unwittingly, but more often with the purpose, a company’s management can push its employee beyond the limits of his capabilities. This leads to hours spent in the office, reduced productivity and dissatisfaction. People naturally resist this kind of stress and need a break. They often take the days off to themselves with no essential reasons for their absence, not wanting to face the situation directly.

Family problems & kids – The lack of time and the incompatibility with the duties of other family members can be real torture. Health problems and injuries – unfortunately, neither the best experts nor businesspeople are resistant to illness. When once in your life you find yourself in a thin line between life and death, you know that finally came the time you need to dedicate to yourself. You will do everything to get back to the old. Here, things like job, career, success, and money go to another plan. Sickness is the most common reason for the absence. Nevertheless, in the modern and fast-moving world, new diseases also occur. An increasing number of people are suffering from depression and severe psychiatric conditions. The business environment itself causes some of them. It is a serious problem affecting a whole lot of people, from a person who feels lost, his family, associates, but also influence the progress of the firm in which the person works. It is not rare that in companies that have less stringent rules, a lot of people abuse the possibility of absenteeism.

What can we just do?

As a community, we must see all the changes through which we pass as a modern system. If we are aware of the causes that lead to the absence, they should be eradicated on a global or state level. Each nation for itself and the world as a whole must work on better human relations, behavior, healthy communication, and also legal protection of the employees’ rights, who find themselves in the problem. On the other hand, institutions are those who can and must create a functional system in which everyone can develop, progress, earn and have the right to personal attitude and way of life.

As employers, we must observe what’s happening around us. We should always be aware that frequent absence, an unsatisfied or shaky worker is causing harm to the company, insufficient productivity, and a negative impact on other workers. You need to find the right tactics, make a balance. The rules of behavior must be clear and precise, just as the ethical codex of the superiors and their understanding for employees. A healthy team is the best way to success.

In the end, as friends, we must not remain deaf and blind. Problems are not solved by ignoring them. Take a few minutes for your office companion. Take him or her out for lunch, talk. Perhaps you are, and maybe that moment is all he needs to get back on the right path.
