In this article, we will not deal with the subject of chronic alcoholism, but will look at our daily habits and people who drink alcohol – “recreational.” Do you remember your first drunkenness? And if we keep it as a top secret from our children, the teenage age is the period when each of us faced the hangover, for the first time. For someone easy, for some others less smoothly to overcome and hide from the parents. While some people find it quite interesting, others realized at the first step that alcohol is not made for them. Now, you are lucky if you can take a look at these past events with a smile on your face. It was a part of growing up and a great experience.
Everything seemed much easier with 20
A large number of adults drink alcohol during the whole lifetime, in a smaller daily amount. Moderation is not a problem. Some doctors even think that the glass of wine or whiskey is good for the heart and brain. However, as we grow old, we feel drastic differences in recuperating after crazy nights and hangovers tomorrow morning. It was easy to get restart when you were 20, only with a refreshing shower and orange juice, but with 30, things all seems to be harder and slower. Are we just a little bit rusty at 30 or ready to retire when it comes to a good party?
Averaged adult man consumes about 9 liters of pure alcohol annually. Alcoholic drinks are inevitable when it comes to dinner parties, while we celebrate, toasting or having fun. It helps people to relax, gives self-confidence and the possibility of more comfortable and smooth communication. Dancing is easier with alcohol as well as showing love to the opposite sex. But as the years go by, the average man has less time for night outings, feasts and drinking cocktails with friends. Work, home, children … Can’t remember the last time you were awake at midnight. All this got you out of form. This is the first reason why you feel a hangover even after just two drunks. Your body forgot about alcohol. Once upon a time, you could defeat the bottle, but today, you feel dizzy after only a couple of sips, and the morning-after headache is intolerable.
The hangover has consequences to both, physical and psychological condition
The hangover. That’s when you cannot raise your head off the pillow, and when finally do it and manage to the bathroom, the scene in the mirror is so terrifying, you wish you never get out of the bed at all. You look terrible. The face is dehydrated, and that undereye bags are black and huge and scary. This is because the regenerative properties of cell division disappear over the years, or our genetic ability to recover.
You know how the day after drinking, you have a problem to put your thoughts together? If you take the hangover to work, worse, you will not be productive or concentrated on your job. All the duties that you do perform very well, like making breakfast, taking your children to school, a Skype meeting, healthy eating, yoga class, time with the parents … with a hangover, looks like a nightmare.
The researches also show that alcohol has to do with blood flow to the brain cells. It directly affects the receptors in the brain and neurotransmitters cannot function normally. Then you get the feeling of disbalance, both, physical and emotional. You need extra sleep, because this is one of the best ways to get out of the hangover phase.
Higher tolerance for alcohol – a more significant problem
In fact, the point that you feel dizzy from one glass of wine and a to-day-long hangover is right for you. That means you’re not an addict. People who consume alcohol more often have the possibility of higher tolerance. More precisely, they will not feel the hangover from the moderate amount of beverages. However, the lack of hangover feeling that should remind us to slow down can lead to severe problems. Chronic alcoholism usually starts at the 30s, with an already established trail in drinking. Medicine connects it to many diseases, both mental and physical, that have a direct relationship with alcohol, or it is only a trigger for conditions that a person has genetic predispositions on. It is not unusual that it is difficult to give a correct diagnosis to a patient who consumes alcohol. This is particularly true for people over 65. So, doctors and often both patients and their families come to the misconception that, for example, a person suffers from dementia, while actually exhibits the adverse effects of drunkenness.
Being an adult is a hard job. The hangover is there to remind us of that. But why should we even take time for sweet wine or a relaxing whiskey, if not with the goal of relaxing and enjoying? In any other scenario, this one glass, two, three or more, would be considered an alcohol abuse, where all enjoyment ends.
