As a part of their effort to promote their new weed-centric show Disjointed, Netflix teamed up with a California dispensary in order to produce, as well as release their strains of weed. The names of the strains were also inspired by strains, as well as characters that are found in the show and they were also sold particularly from a pop-up shop in West Hollywood at the same weekend in which the show was released on Netflix.
Disjointed stars Kathy Bates and is about the journey of a middle-aged woman to opening her dispensary and hiring her son, as well as other young budtenders to help her. While the concept for the show and the promotional materials sounds great, critics have been less than enthused with the outcome. CNN called the show “as stale as an unwashed bong.”
Among the strains were Rutherford B. Haze, Eve’s Bush, and the Omega Strain, and each of them was specifically from Disjointed. Netflix has also created, as well as sold strains that were inspired by some other original shows on the streaming site such as Orange is the New Black and Bojack Horseman. Netflix said in a release:
“Each of the strains was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone. For instance, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies are going to be more Sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.”
If these terms are unknown to you, Sativa and indica are two distinct strains of marijuana which produce different highs for the user. Sativa typically produces a rush of energy, as well as a mind-high that levels the user feeling uplifted and energized. On the other hand, indica leaves the user feeling relaxed, as well as sedated and mellower.
This move comes at a period when California continues embracing marijuana, and the federal government continues to resist reform.
U.S. Attorney General named Jeff Sessions has repeatedly said that he has the intention to push back against reform measures that are put forth by states. Despite the actions of the government, Netflix thought that the substance was popular enough to use as a promotional agent for their show. However, they made it clear that they are going to collect no profit from the selling of strains, as it was strictly for promotional purposes.
Unluckily, the strains were just sold for that weekend through Alternative Herbal Health Services dispensary. But, that does not mean that you should write off the whole promotion. You should watch the” Disjointed” trailer in the video below, in order to see if the show is up to your alley.
