The secret of Strong and Healthy Nails is in Your Kitchen

- in Health

Brittle and weak fingernails can be indicators of some overall health problem. We often neglect our nails. All we do is manicures and nail polishing, but to maintain healthy and strong nails, people should include foods that are rich in vital nutrients. The best foods for your nails are all healthy things you likely already have in your kitchen. Calcium and vitamin B are essential for healthy nails. So if you have dry, brittle nails that break easily, you know how distressing it can be, get in the kitchen and contribute your health.

Healthy food, strong nails

Protein in eggs is highly digestible and efficiently taken up by the body, and they also contain B12, vitamins A and E and iron that are known to increase fingernail thickness.

Dark leafy greens- spinach, broccoli, and kale

You should eat greens on the regular base, but here’s one more huge reason- they make your nails so tough as them should be. Spinach, broccoli and collard greens provide your body with enough calcium,  iron, folate which helps nails back into fighting shape.

For healthy and strong nails, proteins are the most important. Fish is in omega-3 fatty acids, so it’s an excellent source of proteins and sulfur.  Omega-3 fatty acids help in moisturizing the nail bed and also increase their suppleness.

For healthy fingernails, it is essential to load up on micronutrients, such as oats. They promote fingernail growth because oats are rich in zinc, manganese, copper and B vitamins.

Nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds are great snacks that provide a dose of healthy fats that your nails might be craving for. Almonds are the source of protein and magnesium, and sunflower seeds have plenty of magnesium and contain the trace minerals manganese and copper. These seeds also include Vitamin B6, zinc, and Vitamin E which contribute to healthy fingernails and strong bones as well.

Lean meats-turkey, chicken, and beef

Protein in meats that helps build strong muscles also does wonders for your fingernails, because they are made out of protein. If you have a problem with brittle them, the first thing you can try is adding more proteins to your diet and eating lean meats like beef and pork will keep nails in tip-top shape.

Fruits and berries – strawberries, blueberries, and bananas

Fruits are an easy and delicious way to get lots of nutrients and vitamins in your diet. Antioxidants in berries and other fruits help protect your body’s cells against free radical damage that increases stress hormones and inflammation, which impacts all cells in the hair and nails. The highest antioxidant properties have blueberries, strawberries, and kiwis, which also have high levels of Vitamin C.  Dried apricots and bananas are rich in vitamin A and B6.

Fortified milk

Milk is loaded with calcium and Vitamin D which are crucial for building strong nails that can tackle all the stress we put them through every day.

Beer is rich in silicon, which is proven to strengthen your bones and your them. From time to time drink a glass of beer and see the benefits when you glance down at your fingertips. Cheers to that.
