Wine is not exactly known for being part of our healthy lifestyle, especially when we are dieting, as well as when we are trying to shed a few extra pounds.
A person that has ever been on a diet, no matter it is it Weight Watchers, Slimming World or Atkins, is going to be familiar with the pain of having to ditch the booze when you are trying to get your summer body back.
On average, a large glass of wine, and by large we do not mean a bucket size one but we mean around the 250ml mark, it is said to contain the same amount of calories as ice cream. That is around 228. That is shocking, right?
People say that a summer body is made in winter but with the cold weather, as well as the endless warnings about not to leave the house unless necessary, getting to the gym or at least outside to do your workout, may be trickier than usual.
But, thanks to the scientists, we may have an alcohol-based solution to ease your body woes.
If you are one of the people that struggle to refrain from the comfort food or those glasses of wine, you may take partake in after a long and tiring day at the office, there is no need to feel guilty, as apparently, drinking just two glasses of wine before you go to sleep can actually help you to lose weight. Bingo!
According to two separate studies, one which was by Washington State University and the other by Harvard Medical School, back in 2016, report to the Daily Mail, similarly, they have found that there is a polyphenol which is called resveratrol in red wine which turns a white fan into beige fat.
The research of the Washington State University also found that resveratrol is a type of antioxidant which is found in most fruits.
Min Du, who is a professor of animal sciences, and Songbo Wang, who is a visiting scientist, demonstrated that mice fed a diet which contained 0.1% resveratrol could change their excess white fat into the active, as well as energy-burning beige fat. Du said:
“Polyphenols in fruit, which include resveratrol, increase gene expression which enhances the oxidation of dietary fats so that the body will not be overloaded. They convert white fat into beige fat which burns lipids off as heat – helping to keep the body in balance, as well as prevent obesity and metabolic dysfunction.”
Meanwhile, the researchers at the Harvard Medical School found in their study of 20,000 women, that those that drank just two glasses of wine a day were 70% less likely to be overweight.
It is also thought the resveratrol in wine suppresses your appetite. It means that it is less likely that you will end up going for a midnight snack after a couple of glasses of red before going to bed.
Despite these two studies, you should remember that you should always drink responsibly.
