Going to the beach can rejuvenate you. It is not just about improving your mood, but it is also about improving your health. According to some studies, the sea can have excellent effects on us.

1. The sea can help your way of thinking.

Some research has shown that the sound of waves alerts wave patterns in our brain, lulling us into deep, as well as a relaxed state. Relaxing in this way can help rejuvenate the mind and body.

New-born babies are 75% water, and as we age, we become drier to the tune of only 60%. However, our brains are about 75% water, and our bones are at 31%. Our brains react to water positively, as our ancestors came out of the water and also evolved from swimming to crawling or to walking too. According to Wallace J. Nichols, who is a marine biologist and conservationist living near the central coast of California, fetuses still have ‘gill-slit’ structures in their early stages of development and the water that is in our cells is comparable to that which has been found in the sea.

Nichols told CBS News, this biological relation to water triggers an immediate response in our brains. When you see, or you hear the ocean, you will know that you are in the right place.

2. Going to the beach is healthy for our body too.

All of us know the risks of too much exposure on the sun. But, there are also benefits to getting some rays, too.

When our skin is directly exposed to the sun, our bodies make vitamin D, which is a vital tool which helps with calcium absorption and building strong bones. Some of it comes from our diet, but a good portion also comes from the sun. According to Mayo Clinic, as little as ten minutes of sun exposure can provide us with our daily dose. And, according to the vitamin D council, our body can produce 10,000 IU of vitamin D, in just little under the time which it takes for our skin to turn a pink color.

In the end, the sand also acts as a natural exfoliant, which helps the old skin to shed more quickly and it also improves its natural regeneration. It will also make an excellent surface for exercising. The extra resistance that it imposes on muscles can maximize the effects of any fitness regime.

3. The sea is also excellent for our soul.

The researchers said that living near the coast may also be associated with better health, as the seaside environment reduces stress. They also pointed to another British study which found that people that go to the coast every day experienced more feelings of calmness, as well as relaxation that those that visited urban parks or countryside.

When we breathe the sea air, we feel so uplifted.  We can explain the reasons why the sea air decreases stress and also makes us feel excellent by the minerals in the sea air and the negatively charged ions. The sea air also consists of a significant amount of negatively charged ions. The negative ions are molecules in nature, which are found in great numbers in places like the forest or waterfalls. The ocean spray, which is loaded with negative ions, helps in strengthening immunological defense mechanisms and the iodine in the ocean mist, helps in regulating the thyroid gland.

There is another benefit of these negative ions, and it is that they help us in absorbing oxygen and a lot of people believe that these molecules help in balancing serotonin levels, which are connected to mood, as well as stress. In today’s modern world, people are exposed to a lot of positive (free radicals) from computers, as well as electricity, T.V.’s and more. This is why it is especially good to increase our exposure to negative ions.
